Our team brings together the brightest minds from security, finance, and distributed systems to build the infrastructure of a new financial system. We’re looking to diversify our team with people who are humble, creative, and eager to learn. We are a remote-first, global team, but provide the option of working in-office in San Francisco, New York City, Indianapolis, Sioux Falls, Porto, and Singapore. The Senior Accountant, Brokerage role will play a critical role in accounting for brokerage related activities. Specific areas are commissions, inventory, counterparty balances and fees. This team member will help us build for scale and assist in the design, documentation and implementation of policies, processes and controls. 

As a Senior Accountant you will:

    • Perform daily and month end processes including preparing journal entries, reconciliations, inventory calculations and supporting schedules 
    • Interface with brokerage and operations teams to obtain information and work with team lead to determine accounting treatment of transactions
    • Calculate revenues and prepare aging schedules
    • Record cash and crypto activity and prepare supporting documentation
    • Assist in the creation of regulatory reporting and reports for senior management 
    • Assist with responding to audit and examination requests
    • Identify, recommend and implement process improvements and system enhancements
    • Perform ad-hoc projects as requested

You may be a fit for this role if:

    • You have 5+ years of related accounting experience at a fintech startup, broker-dealer, future commission merchant, trading firm or other financial services firm
    • You have a degree with a concentration in Accounting, Business, and/or Finance (CPA preferred but not required)
    • You have working knowledge of US GAAP and SOX compliance
    • Your skills with advanced functions in Google Sheets (or Excel) are sharp
    • You have excellent communication skills
    • You have experience with Netsuite, Blackline, Bitwave, Sovos or similar software packages
    • You have excellent organizational skills and the ability to self-motivate well.
    • You have an interest in accounting & finance for financial institutions, digital assets and evolving markets

Although not a requirement, bonus points if:

    • You have experience at a crypto or blockchain firm
    • You’re familiar with regulatory finance and operations and have interfaced directly or were a financial examiner with FINRA, NFA or OCC or a similar regulatory body in the past.
    • Series 27 or Series 99 is a plus
    • You're familiar with regulatory reporting including FOCUS and 1-FR reports
    • You have worked at or with investment advisors or institutional investment funds.
    • You can write Python scripts, SQL queries or build data integrations into Google Sheets/Excel 
    • You have experience in the design and implementation of new controls and processes.
    • You've kept up to date with the proliferation of blockchain and crypto innovations.
    • You have participated in the specification and design process for internally built finance and/or operations software
    • You were emotionally moved by the soundtrack to Hamilton, which chronicles the founding of a new financial system. :)
